Neck Pain Treatment - How Bad Posture Causes Pain

Written By LaVallee Chiropractic on December 19, 2018

Many things that can cause a pain in the neck. Working on your feet all day, or hunched over a computer, and even working in your garden can cause neck pain. Your kids may be both literal and figurative pains in the neck.

Skip the pain medications and consider better posture and neck pain treatment for your chiropractor as the way to ease your neck pain.

Common Causes of Neck Pain

Neck pain can happen at any age. Among the most common neck pain causes is poor posture. Not standing straight or sitting up straight, and hunching over your computer can all cause neck pain – and you can have poor posture at any age.

Age is another factor in neck pain. Many people notice far more aches and pains as they get older, especially if you lived a rough life (a lot of standing, a lot of lifting, participating in rough sports).

Osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease, and spinal stenosis are all medical issues that bring on neck pain. Each of these seems to happen with aging, most often.

How Chiropractic Neck Pain Treatment Helps

Before setting forth with neck pain treatment, your chiropractor will ask some questions about the pain you’re experiencing. They'll want to know where the pain starts, how often you have it, what it feels like, the rate of the pain, and if it comes with any numbness or tingling.

Your chiropractic specialist will do some tests, and probably take some x-rays, to look at the alignment of your spine. This will help them pinpoint the area(s) that is out of place.

Just because you have neck pain doesn't mean that it will specifically be a neck area vertebra that is out of place – your spine connects to all of the nerves in your body, so you could be feeling pain in the neck, but have a misalignment farther down your back.

Adjustments follow. Your chiropractor will most likely set up a schedule for adjustments to help realign your spine. You'll notice a difference right away, but unless you correct the cause of your pain (poor posture, lack of exercise), you'll continue needing adjustments.

Dr. LaVallee, a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, lectures regularly on the importance of ergonomics (something that the Occupational Health and Safety Administration or OSHA has done case studies on), which can help better your posture and decrease pain.
