Natural Headache Treatment with Chiropractic Care

Written By LaVallee Chiropractic on June 29, 2018

Traffic around Capitol Park. Screaming kids. Work (in general). Hunger.

Name any inconvenience - you’ve probably experienced a headache from it. Doctors have identified hundreds of possible causes for headaches, including things like:

  • Alcohol
  • Certain processed foods (or skipped meals)
  • Posture
  • Changes in sleep
  • Dehydration
  • High blood pressure

The list goes on. And you’re really not alone if you’ve experienced this common ailment. It’s estimated that 45 million Americans complain about headaches every year.

If you typically reach for the pill bottle or can of caffeine to stifle the effects of that dull, achy feeling plaguing productivity, you might want to consider a more natural headache treatment. Chiropractic care helps to alleviate immediate and long-term symptoms of headaches.

Most Common Types of Headaches

Tension Headache

This is the most common type of headache people suffer from and is broken into two categories: episodic and chronic.

According to Medical News Today, episodic tension headaches typically last for a few hours at a time, but can span over the course of a few days. Chronic tension headaches can last for 15 or more days per month, up to three months.

Migraine

Migraines are the second most common type of headache and can cause the most significant impact on the person.

In addition to throbbing pain, migraine sufferers also experience blurred vision, light-headedness, and nausea. Usually, migraines last between a few hours to two days.

Chiropractic Care: The Natural Headache Treatment

Surveys indicate that 10-25 percent of headache-sufferers seek chiropractic care for relief. Here’s why this natural headache treatment really works.

Chiropractic treatment is centered around normalizing muscle tension and stabilizing the body to reduce stressors. A chiropractor will work gently to restore joint range and optimize your posture to relieve some of the stress from your head and neck area – a technique called spinal manipulation.

Don’t forget to breathe properly. If you suffer from headaches, you likely breathe more from your chest and shoulders rather than your diaphragm. That constant elevation of your shoulders and back muscles leads to increased tension in your head and neck area.

Lean on your chiropractor for advice too (like how to adjust your breathing). They will identify underlying causes for your headaches and explain how small tweaks in the way you sit at work, the food you eat, and even consumption of certain vitamins, can help relieve headache symptoms.
